I’m seriously an over-the-top go-getter.
I hesitate using the word “overachiever” because I see visions of a Hayley Hobson with thick coke-bottle spectacles and a pocket protector…
But I’m a little crazy when it comes to getting shiz done.
I just have a ton of passion and an unstoppable urge to help as many people as I can, especially all you femtrepreneurs out there.
And when I say I’m going to do something, I do it.
But striving for perfection, in your business and your life, is unrealistic.
It’s a great way to fast track your way into stress town.
I get it. You want it all. You want to do it all. You want to help them all.
But the only way you’re going to do that is to find some friggin’ balance.
I don’t know if I fully believe that we can achieve a perfect work/life balance anymore.
I actually think it’s kind of a myth.
Because we’re all moving a million miles an hour, especially in the digital world.
Don’t get me wrong, it’s great if you can find the mythical unicorn that is “balance”...
But when I look at myself and the uber-inspirational female biz bosses around me, we’re all working our butts off and we worked our butts off even harder when we first started out...
It’s all about finding the calm while in the storm, remembering what’s really important in our lives, and being mindful through it all.
Finding balance within your work is totally possible and I’m here to help you find it.
1. Ask for help
When I look back on the early days, I have no idea how I survived without my team.
For years, I busted my buns all by lonesome building my biz and growing my empire.
But after awhile, it was clear I needed help.
Not all of you can afford to hire a team but you can ask for help.
And in the very least, it’s great to have a business bestie or someone you can outsource to or partner with from time to time.
Because finding balance can sometimes mean letting go of your biz-baby for a moment and delegating the work to someone you trust.
I know that can be difficult — you’ve put your heart and soul into this thing….
But if you’re feeling burnt out, stressed out or like the world is about to come crashing down because you literally have TOO much to do...ask for help.
And you’ll be glad you did.
Not only can I rely on my super stellar team (you guys friggin’ rock!)...
We also have a ton of tools at our disposal to help us.
From Slack and Voxer to Canva and Asana — we’ve got apps up the ying-yang to help us prioritize, stay organized and keep things flowing.
2. Manage your time
I love saying yes.
YES YES YES YES YES!
But sometimes…. you gotta use the dreaded word — no.
Ugh, it’s hard to even type.
When you’re first starting out, you may be so excited to land those first few gigs...you start saying yes to even more work as it flows in…
And then all of a sudden, there’s not enough hours in the day.
Take the health and business coaching side of my biz for instance...I have to be careful not to take on too many clients.
I want to give each person I work with the best service I possibly can and truly focus on how I can help them in their health, life and work.
I can’t do that if I’m overloaded myself.
Another tip to find balance in your work is to prioritize and properly manage your time.
Take time off.
Can’t do that? YES, my friend. You can. Or at least take a darn break.
Every day, sit down and make a list of what you have to do in order of importance and deadline.
Then stick to it.
Block off time for important tasks, including selfcare. Which brings me to my next point…
3. Mindfulness is key
Have you ever met someone that is as cool as a cucumber in EVERY situation?
Like they wouldn’t flinch if a shirtless Bradley Cooper got down on one knee….
Or a freaking cat fell into their bubble bath.
Guess what… you can be mindful too.
For real. Finding clarity changed my life. Some call it meditation. I call it finding a moment of balance in the midst of chaos.
It’s what gets me through the day (along with a daily exercise routine).
Finding that peace and calm between the thoughts, between the ideas, between the meetings and phone calls… will save your life.
You don’t have to be in reactive mode 100% of the time. It will only lead to stress.
Stress is a disease. And it can make us hella sick.
When you have a healthy mind, you have a healthy biz, relationships and family.
Find what works for you.
I like to take my pause first thing in the morning, before my day starts ramping up.
But maybe it works best for you to take time at lunch, or at the end of your day.
There’s even apps out there to help you like Calm or Headspace.
And don’t forget, a few simple deep breaths can make a huge difference and that’s something you can do all day long.
Finding a healthy balance at work can mean the difference between you loving or hating your day-to-day.
Join me in consciously creating a balanced work life.
